Concepts: The concepts behind these initiatives are rooted in growing black business, improving black education and elevating the stand of living thus the quality of life for black communities. These are initiatives that will benefit Wisconsin’s overall business community. These are innovative solutions that improve the way we do business and live our lives in Wisconsin. Each initiative is cost effective and will give the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce a leadership presence that will resonate throughout the business, faith based and education communities. Our initiatives are in line with several organizations whose approach is to community development with a commitment to leadership - across institutions, age groups, genders and races. We could say that these initiatives are the action part of any initiatives to improve Wisconsin’s business community. Designed to be implemented state wide at every level of business these initiatives signal a new approach to addressing the lack of employment activity within the black community.

Customer Service Through Nurturing:
This two day business development seminar is designed to assist business owners in developing a “customer service employee”.
- The philosophy of Customer Service through Nurturing emphasizes the importance of training, maintaining and rewarding the best employees.
- It is founded on the belief that employees who are cared for develop the capacity to trust, care and respect themselves, other people, living creatures and the environment.
- Customer Service through Nurturing is founded on several principles.
- Feelings of Attachment: Attachment means a bond between parent (Business Owner) and their child (The Business) that conveys a deep love that is unconditional.
- Empathy: Empathy is the ability of the business owner to put themselves in the place of their employees in an attempt to feel, think and understand what their employees are feeling, thinking and understanding, and responding to them in a loving and respectful way.
- Nurturing Oneself: Taking time in meeting ones’ adult needs as an adult forms the foundation of understanding and helping employees achieve their goals. Nurturing employers take care of themselves as well as their employees.
- Gentle Touch – Research has shown that children who experience warm and gentle touch in the form of hug, pats and massages develop and maintain healthy relationships throughout their life, as well as a healthy and positive sense of self.
- Discipline: Setting limits through workplace rules, training right from wrong through business ethics, and teaching respect and worth through business values are all a part of nurturing through customer service.
- Expressing Feelings: Helping employees and customers learn appropriate ways to manage and express their feelings is a fundamental characteristic of nurturing through customer service.
- Expectations and Self-Worth: Know what to expect of employees as they develop, plays a significant role in their self-worth. When employers have appropriates expectations, employees learn that they are competent people, capable of pleasing others important in their lives.
